The World of Mining
Inspired by a conversation between co-authors John Trudinger and Jim Wark, “Mining and the Environment,” was born. The authors decided to create a bespoke photographic mining coffee table book. DID worked with the Authors and agreed on a large size, square format, perfect to accommodate the photographic content and Endpapers used mine industry symbols. The concept for the layout was as if the reader were walking through a physical photo exhibition.
The World of Mining is the first photo book that aims to reposition this poorly understood industry through eye catching images and stories. The book contains many rarely seen breathtaking aerial photos by notable aerial photographers: Jim Wark from United States, and Richard Woldendorp from Australia. Other international photographers contribute ground level photos of mines, mine-site oddities to mining communities. The well informed and breezy narrative was written by mining experts Karlheinz Spitz and John Trudinger.
